Postdoctoral Position, Division of Bone and Mineral Diseases, Washington University School of Medicine

November 2019/in News /by Olga Katsovskiy

Postdoctoral position in the laboratory of Deborah Veis, MD, PhD in the Department of Internal Medicine – Division of Bone and Mineral Diseases, Washington University School of Medicine in St. Louis, MO. The research interest of this lab is to elucidate the cellular and molecular mechanisms underlying pathological bone loss.  Major ongoing projects include the study of mitochondrial dynamics in bone cells (osteoblasts and osteoclasts), and mechanisms of host-pathogen interactions in osteomyelitis.  The approaches include the use of genetically engineered mice and pathogenic bacterial strains, histological and structural analyses (such as with microCT), confocal microscopy, mechanical testing, and culture of primary murine and human cells.

The applicant must have a PhD degree and should be highly motivated, eager and quick to learn, careful, organized, and reliable. The candidate must be able to work independently and communicate with laboratory staff and collaborating investigators. Strong written and oral communication skills are essential.  Expertise in cell culture and molecular biology, mouse genotyping, plasmid and retrovirus preparation and gene transfer, and protein analysis (Western blot, FACS, IHC/IF and ELISA) is helpful. Previous microbiology experience, especially with bacterial culture and genetic manipulation would be a plus, as would experience with whole animal imaging approaches such as bioluminescence imaging or microCT, Experience with histology, including immunostaining and confocal microscopy, and/or with analysis of mitochondria/cell metabolism would be welcome.

To apply for this position, please send a cover letter and C.V. to:

October 2019/in News /by Olga Katsovskiy

Research Scientist – Search Number 2017-1229

We are writing to ask for your assistance in identifying a Research Scientist to join the Department of Orthopaedic Surgery within the UConn Musculoskeletal Institute at the Assistant or Associate Professor level in the tenure track.  We are searching for an outstanding individual working in skeletal cell biology and wanting to make a difference in the field of musculoskeletal research.  A Ph.D. or an M.D. degree is required.

Candidates’ research should be aimed at addressing fundamental questions related to cellular, molecular or physiological mechanisms of the skeletal system.  We are particularly interested in individuals currently funded by the National Institutes of Health.

The University of Connecticut School of Medicine has a highly interactive research environment with interdisciplinary graduate and medical science training programs.  The Musculoskeletal Institute offers a collegial environment and houses investigators working on various aspects of skeletal cell biology and biomechanics of bone.  There is ample opportunity to interact/work with basic and physician scientists, including orthopaedic surgeons, a spine clinician scientist and osteoporosis specialists.  Appropriate laboratory space and a start-up package will be offered.

Candidates for the Research Scientist position can apply to Job Search 2017-1229 or contact canalis@uchc.edu and imoss@uchc.edu.

Thank you for your assistance on this important search.

September 2019/in News /by Olga Katsovskiy

POSITION

Postdoctoral position available to study articular cartilage transcriptional regulatory network.

GENERAL SUMMARY/OVERVIEW STATEMENT

Postdoctoral position is available in the Department of Biological Chemistry and Molecular Pharmacology, Harvard Medical School, Dr. Andrew Lassar, PhD Laboratory. The Postdoc will study the transcriptional regulatory network that controls both the formation and maintenance of articular cartilage. Current efforts are to understand how extracellular signals either promote the expression and/or regulate the activity of a newly identified articular cartilage transcription factor that is essential for articular cartilage formation.

EDUCATION AND EXPERIENCE REQUIRED

  • Student and/or present postdoctoral fellow who has an excellent working knowledge of molecular biology techniques.
  • Specifically looking for someone who wants to ask basic questions about synovial joint formation and apply this knowledge to develop regenerative approaches to treat joint pathology.
  • The ability to work constructively with others, with honesty and enthusiasm are all a must for this position.
  • Prior work with genetically engineered mice and/or regulation of gene expression would be a plus.
