Objectives:

Upon completion of this activity, participants will be able to:

  • Recognize patients in your practice who could have a less common form of diabetes called Maturity Onset Diabetes of the Young (MODY)
  • Appreciate why it is important to diagnose MODY and be able to provide gene-specific management
  • Have an understanding of the latest advances in genetics of type 2 diabetes, including identification of possible genetic subtypes of disease
  • Recognize the pleotropic clinical presentations of Gonadotropin-releasing hormone (GnRH) deficiency in humans
  • Discuss the genetic mechanisms of pubertal disorders in humans
  • Understand how rare pubertal disorders can inform the ontogeny of human GnRH neurons
