Upon completion of this activity, participants will be able to: 

  • Define reactive gliosis as documented at the cellular and tissue level in rodent models of diet-induced obesity and become familiar with radiologic methods to assess its presence in human hypothalamus 
  • Synthesize accumulated evidence for the presence of hypothalamic gliosis in humans with obesity and/or type 2 diabetes 
  • Differentiate the possible roles for hypothalamic gliosis in obesity and type 2 diabetes pathogenesis
